Playa del Carmen is a resort city along the Caribbean Sea in the southeastern state of Quintana Roo, Mexico. It is part of the municipality of Playa del Carmen, and is around 68 kilometers away from Cancun. As of 2020, the city's population was just over 304,942, making it Quintana Roo’s second-largest city after Cancun. Playa del Carmen is a popular tourist destination in Mexico's Riviera Maya region. Its current growth rate is set at 7.5% per year. According to Guinness World Records, it is one of Latin America's fastest-growing communities. In 2016, the city was the tenth-most popular international travel destination for U.S. travelers, and more than one million tourists passed through the city a year later. Playa's main airport is Cancún International Airport, which is around 70 kilometres (43 mi) away. The area is known for its white sand beaches, turquoise waters, coral reefs, surrounding rainforests, and balnearios. The downtown area of the city revolves around Quinta Avenida, a busy pedestrian thoroughfare lined with shops, clubs, and restaurants. The weather is hot year-round. The summer and winter breaks are peak season for tourism.
Estadio de la Unidad Deportiva Mario Villanueva Madrid is a stadium in Playa del Carmen, Quintana Roo, Mexico. It is primarily used for soccer, and is the home field of the Inter Playa del Carmen soccer team in Mexico's third division. It holds 7,500 people and features a natural grass surface. The stadium was to host all Group B matches for the 2010 CONCACAF Women's Gold Cup, but a last-minute change moved those games to the Estadio Quintana Roo in Cancún.
The 1st federal electoral district of Quintana Roo (Spanish: Distrito electoral federal 01 de Quintana Roo) is one of the 300 electoral districts into which Mexico is divided for elections to the federal Chamber of Deputies and one of four such districts in the state of Quintana Roo. It elects one deputy to the lower house of Congress for each three-year legislative session by means of the first-past-the-post system. Votes cast in the district also count towards the calculation of proportional representation ("plurinominal") deputies elected from the third region. The current member for the district, re-elected in the 2024 general election, is Juan Luis Carrillo Soberanis of the Ecologist Green Party of Mexico (PVEM).
Playa del Carmen Airport (IATA: PCM, ICAO: MMPY, AFAC: PCE), is an airport located in the city of Playa del Carmen, Quintana Roo, Mexico. There is little activity at the airport, and its runway of just a few hundred meters receives only small and medium-sized planes.
Playacar is an upscale resort area of Playa del Carmen. Located in Playa del Carmen in the state of Quintana Roo, Mexico in the municipality of Solidaridad, it is a gated community that has grown with Playa del Carmen, just south of its main urban area. Playacar is approximately a 40 minute drive from Cancun. It is composed of 2 sections: the first one, Playacar Phase 1 offers by-the-sea secluded beaches and villas, very close to downtown Playa del Carmen. The second, Playacar Phase II, was built around a golf course designed by Robert von Hagge, and exposes all-inclusive resorts and private villas all around.

Xcaret Park (Spanish: Parque Xcaret; Spanish pronunciation: [ˈpaɾke ʃkaˈɾet]) is a privately owned and operated theme park, resort and self-described ecotourism development located in the Riviera Maya, a portion of the Caribbean coastline of the Mexican state of Quintana Roo. It is part of Xcaret Experiencias Group which also owns the Xplor Park, Xel-Ha Park, and Xenses Park; as well as the Xichen, Xenotes, Xavage and Xoximilco tours and activities. It is situated approximately 75 kilometres (47 mi) south of Cancún, and 6.5 kilometres (4 mi) south of the nearest large settlement Playa del Carmen along Highway 307. It is named after the nearby archaeological site Xcaret, a settlement constructed by the pre-Columbian Maya some of whose structures lie within the boundaries of the park's 81 hectares (200 acres) of land holdings. From 2010 to 2015, Xcaret Experiencias has been recognized as one of The Best Mexican Companies (Las Mejores Empresas Mexicanas), a recognition promoted by Banamex, Deloitte México and Tecnológico de Monterrey.
Xplor Park (Spanish: Parque Xplor) is a theme park in Riviera Maya, Quintana Roo, Mexico, 75 kilometres (47 mi) south of Cancún and 6.5 kilometres (4 mi) south of Playa del Carmen, opening in July 2009. It features entertainment built into the landscape of the Yucatán Peninsula, including rivers and cenotes, and includes two zipline circuits. It is operated by Xcaret Experiencias Group, who also operate other theme parks in Mexico, including Xcaret Park, the Xel-Ha Park, and the Xenses Park. By 2017, 2.5 million people had visited, and in 2018 over 2,000 people per day rode the zip-line courses.
Xcaret (Mayan pronunciation: [ʃkaˈɾet]) is a Maya civilization archaeological site located on the Caribbean coastline of the Yucatán Peninsula, in the state of Quintana Roo in Mexico. The site was occupied by the pre-Columbian Maya and functioned as a port for navigation and an important Maya trading center. Some of the site's original structures are contained within a modern-day tourism development, the privately owned Xcaret Park.
